This week’s Modern Art Notes Podcast features artist Robert Gober.
The Museum of Modern Art is now presenting “Robert Gober: The Heart Is Not a Metaphor,” a retrospective of Gober’s 40-year career. The exhibition, curated by Ann Temkin and Paulina Pobocha in collaboration with Gober, is on view through January 18, 2015. MoMA published the exhibition’s catalogue, which Amazon offers for $32.
Gober is one of America’s most prominent sculptors. He represented the United States at the 2001 Venice Biennale and has held one-person exhibitions at MOCA, the Walker Art Center, the Serpentine and most recently at Basel, Switzerland’s museum for contemporary art.
This is Gober’s Slip-Covered Armchair (1986-87), made at the height of the AIDS crisis. Gober and host Tyler Green discussed it on this week’s program.
