Rest in peace, Jonathan Athon
It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform blog readers that Jonathan Athon of acclaimed Savannah, GA sludge metal trio Black Tusk passed away today.
Last Friday night, Athon and his fiancée Emily were riding on Athon’s motorcycle when they were struck by a drunk driver that ran a stop sign. Emily is recovering and will be okay, but Athon was knocked into a coma and sent to the ICU. He left this world just a couple of short hours ago.
The Savannah music scene and the sludge/stoner/doom metal scene at large has been plunged into mourning. I only met Athon once, but he was known to me and countless others as a fun, positive person with a complete lust for life.
Please keep Emily and Athon’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. Blast some Black Tusk on high and celebrate the great music this man gave us. He will never be forgotten.
Not Mastodon-related, but still a heartbreaking loss for the Georgia metal scene. Rest in peace, Athon. You will be missed.
