The LP 015
Kicking this month off with a bright but chill track by Nosaj Thing (featuring Whoarei). I caught him last month the week all his tracks and gear had been stolen and he still put on a killer show. For that, he gets the pole position.
That segues nicely into Oddisee’s “Counter-Clockwise” followed up by Phora’s “Deeper Than Blood”, an evocative track about a single mother.
I’ve been digging Mt Wolf’s releases so far this year, and “VIII” is no different. Fans of Hundred Waters, Daughter, Alice Boman etc take note. Jessie Baylin does some lovely singing, and her “To Hell and Back” is an anthem.
Lowland Hum’s self titled album has a few standouts, “Odell” has some of the best harmonies. Gemma Hayes continues the delightfully plaintive section of this playlist. (Is that a thing? It can be, right?) Inventions provides a bit more mellow and contemplative track with “Escapers” – it’s got a bit of a Tycho vibe going.
The tunes pick back up with Mideau – another male/female vocal pairing. The Helio Sequence is dropping early tracks that are *killer* much like “Upward Mobility” next. Looking forward to their upcoming full length.
And Ryan Adams breaks our hearts just as we love him to. Always and forever, RA. Braids switches it up for the ending track, but it somehow works.
