Dzang is an on-going project of LA-composer/producer Adam Gunther. Sounds and grooves rise from recorded group improvisation with songs digitally crafted out of that raw material. After an early-2015 session, Gunther assembled his second full-length, Lotion. The record uses stream-of-consciousness lyricism to hold together eclectic dance rhythms, impromptu rock-outs, ambient production and a mixture of electronic and acoustic instrumentation. Down tempos and a female protagonist lend Lotion a comedown catharsis that permeates despite shifts in style from R&B to folk to experimental pop.
Dzang offers a moment of solace, a light and flowing “synth-pop” sound without the all too often “80’s” Casio hollow and emotionless tones. Dzang is, in the music visionary and has a deep clarity to their music that draws you in to experience it closer, listening to this and other tracks, the songs never really sound the same twice, the music evolves with the listeners grasp of the sound, it is a moment in time and space that needs top be savored like a deep breath of sweet air.
The band on Lotion is made up of Molly Sarle (Mountain Man) on vocals, Henry Kwapis (Harriet) on drums, Patrick Kelly (Harriet) on bass, Sean O’Brien on lap steel and synth, and Gunther on guitar, keyboards, bass and electronics.
Lotion, will be released on November 20th 2015 via Dzang Recs.
