Wood Lake’s Atmospheric Sound: Easy to Love

Coastal Beats Media

The atmospheric art-rock and post-punk three-piece band from Ottawa, Ontario, Wood Lake, is experimentally effective in their new pop and folk-inspired track, “Easy Love.” The track was recorded in Toronto while working at Dream House Studios, experimenting with guitar chords, stereo receivers, and original beats.

Wood Lake was formed in May 2012 by members: Harry McGuire on guitar and vocals, Rhian Meaney on drums and backing vocals, and Colin Boudreault on bass and backing vocals. The trio released their first alternative pop album, For Future Generations, in June 2013, recorded at Singsnap Studios in Ottawa.

The tracks are slow-to-fast paced melodies with guitar heavy chords and bleary eyed, goth styles. The songs resemble the harsh noises of Nirvana and the shrilling effects of Deafheaven. Their lyrics are dark and unsettling, and tend to juxtapose life and death. Read the lyrics to their track, “Sleepless,” below.
