Sweet and Sour Blues: BLIND LEMON PEEL BLUES ALL-STARS

“Get ye to the tabernacle of Blues, your local whisky or gin joint, pay heed to the words, my brothers and sisters… Time to get down with the blues”

I wanted to start this review with a bit of snarky sarcasm, The Blind Lemon All-Stars is a upbeat, low down, dirty blues band with a healthy sense of humor guaranteed to please the crowd no matter where thy play. This CD is full of the kind of blues that makes you want to dance and sing along, it’s irreverent and humorous lyrics, steady and true Rhythms, solid timing and easy beats make it a blast to be a part of.

CD Review: BLIND LEMON PEEL BLUES ALL-STARS – Don’t Tear My Clothes

Review by Joseph Timmons: IndiePulse Music Magazine

Self-described as an Old black man trapped in a even older white man’s body. Brawny voiced blues shouter, part Big Joe Turner, part Howlin’ Wolf, part Dr. John, part Tom Waits. The Blind Lemon Peel Blues All-Stars ain’t no sittin’ around cryin’ in your beer blues band! They’re a kick ass, funky, get up and shake your love thang, boogie woogie blues machine!

Frontman Screamin’ Dave is and old black man trapped in an even older white man’s body; a brawny voiced blues shouter, with a preference for mostly originals with some quirky stuff thrown in now and then. His partners in crime are LA based and feature LA legends, Ray Brundidge – who played with James Brown for eight years, Lucky Lloyd, Craig Kimbrough, and D.J. Ison.

They are high octane entertainers, killer performers and above all, professional blues musicians who play to please. They’re about as close to a traditional blues cover band as Little Richard’s original of Tutti Fruitti is to Pat Boone’s.

Band Members: Screamin’ Dave (vocals), Ray Brundidge (bass), Lucky Lloyd (guitar), D.J. Ison (guitar), Fred Saunders (blues harp), Alyssa Parrish (backup vocals)

This band, well known for the fantastic live performances have brought the same energy and party time feeling to this CD, with a bulletproof list of titles that sure to please, and funny to read:

  • Shake Your Love Thang
  • No Time Off
  • Wear What I Please
  • Can’t Get Up
  • Don’t Tear My Clothes
  • Im So Horney
  • Boogie Man Of Love

It is a masterful combination of blues music and silliness, but to be taken seriously for their talent and musical abilities. Recently The Blind Lemon All-Stars have been enjoying some rave reviews on this album, and live performances.  Check them out on their web site http://www.blindlemonpeel.com and follow them on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/The-Blind-Lemon-Peel-All-Stars

  1. Hey. Thanks for the awesome review. If you don’t mind, I might like to use your opening paragraph in a song. Credit give.
