Moth Wings Release Ridiculous, Lo-fi Music Video for “I Used To Hate Myself”

The lo-fi, Texas-based artist Moth Wings has released a new music video for his latest single “I Used To Hate Myself.” The fast-paced, self-loathing track is accompanied by a dingy, 90’s style video that vocalist Spencer Fort refers to as an “anti-video.”

The first time I saw a music video I thought it was distracting and overbearing,” says Fort. “I never really watched them as I grew up with music. I did however slowly watch it take over the industry and become seemingly more important than the song playing underneath. When it came down to this particular song, I wanted to make sure I didn’t play to the overproduced visual world we know now, and decided to strip it down to its bare bone. That’s why it’s as ridiculous and lo fi of a video as it is. Anything more would have just been hollow.

Moth Wings is currently on the road with Esque Records band Rome Hero Foxes, performing what Free Press Houston calls “highly energized fuzz rock.” The new single is a follow-up to his EP released last summer titled Fi / M.

‘I Used To Hate Myself’ is meant to be a mature take on the nostalgia of immaturity,” says Fort. “Immaturity never really leaves a person it just shapes to social norms and gets expressed in different ways. The idea is basically just to say that you never grow out of hating yourself, you just sort of stop acknowledging it.

About Moth Wings:
Moth Wings is an unnecessarily over the top rock n roll band from Houston, TX. The insane approach to the band is reflected not only in the music but in the personalities of the members behind it. It’s more about creating an energy and an environment that enables an artistic and emotional catharsis than it is about being in a band. This energy is explained in the bands recordings, but truly experienced live.
