HEAR IT NOW ON SOUNDCLOUD

Indie/electronic band Doombird from Sacramento are streaming their new album Past Lives now on Soundcloud. The psychedelic synth-pop offering will be released via Gold Standard Records (owned by Artery Recordings) on 12/30 and includes tracks that were recently featured in the TV shows Blood & Oil (ABC), Stitchers (Freeform), How to Get Away with Murder (ABC), as well as the indie film I Live for You.

The album was created within a little over a year,” says vocalist Kris Anaya. “The theme we tried to capture was more of a dark dance electronic record with a haunting voice. The lyrical content within the record focuses mainly on my struggles with anxiety. Even while I was recording the record I was suffering with it. Mainly the inspirations fall in between a lot of Ambient music as well as Electronic Dance music i.e (Tim Hecker, Caribou, Bibio). I personally believe this record vibes well on a rainy day or when you are taking a hike in the woods.

Anaya (who is also the former frontman of the indie band An Angle) began Doombird alongside Joseph Davancens in 2010. After a couple of unofficial releases and Davancens spending some time as a touring member of Tycho, the two collaborated with Aram Deradoorian (Geographer), Mike Sparks (Mr. Metaphor), Dusty Brown, and Arlene Deradoorian (Foster The People) to record Past Lives. The ten track offering was mixed and mastered by Robert Cheek (Band of Horses, Deftones, Chelsea Wolfe). When performing live, Anaya and Davancens are accompained by Ben Edrington, Cory Phillips, and Fernando Oliva.

About Doombird:

Singer-songwriter Kris Anaya and producer/multi-instrumentalist Joseph Davancens want to chart new psychic territory in music. They first collaborated as Doombird in 2010 with a self-titled, self-released full-length album featuring a twelve-piece chamber orchestra.

Two years later they swapped their orchestral ambitions with conceptual ones on the synth-heavy Cygnus, an album that explored the deeply personal emotional lives of historical figures through Anaya’s perspective. Now, a more mature and experienced Doombird has synthesized these parallel and distinct aesthetics with Past Lives, their official debut. For this recording, Anaya and Davancens found creative seclusion in the foggy hills of Stinson Beach, California, alongside musicians Mike Sparks, Aram and Arlene Deradoorian and Dusty Brown.

There they transmuted moody, melodic Synth Pop into clockwork Krautrock and oceanic ambient textures. Over powerful rhythms, Anaya’s singing floats through the mist like the fleeting voices in the psyche. His lyrics invite listeners to fall madly in love or lose themselves in madness.

Past Lives lingers on existential questions. Should I sleep? Should I dream? What’s the use?
