Legendary record label ECM showcases the next wave of groundbreaking artists!
Celebrating Manfred Eicher‘s legendary Munich record label ECM, a home to some of the most creative jazz musicians including Keith Jarrett, Charles Lloyd, Pat Metheny, Dave Holland, Chick Corea and others for over the past 48 years. Since the label was established in 1969, ECM has released more than 1500 albums. For four nights, SFJAZZ will present the next wave of brilliant artists from the label like Craig Taborn, Aaron Parks, and Wolfgang Muthspiel, while looking back at two of it’s greatest in Gary Peacock and Ralph Towner.

Ralph Towner is the figure primarily responsible for contemporizing the acoustic guitar in jazz. In addition to nearly two-dozen releases on ECM as a leader, Towner has made indelible contributions to the work of Gary Burton, John Abercromibie, Larry Coryell, Egberto Gismonti, and Weather Report. Gary Peacock, best known for his work as the bassist in pianist Keith Jarrett’s now-legendary Standards Trio, presents his new trio Now This.

Two of jazz’s most influential instrumentalists and composers share a bill with a critically lauded contemporary classical duo. Ethan Iverson is best known as pianist behind boundary-breaking trio The Bad Plus, teamed up here with tenor saxophonist Mark Turner. Turner has been a bandleader and co-leader of the trio Fly (w/ Larry Grenadier & Jeff Ballard), as part of Dave Holland Big Band, and the SFJAZZ Collective. Munich-born cellist Anja Lechner is founding member of the Rosamunde Quartett, while pianist François Couturier has been a driving force in European music for four decades.
