If you’re like me, every summer seems to have its own soundtrack. From outdoor concerts to kickin’ back around a campfire, music fills our dog days. Whether you’re grilling at home with friends, on a cross-country road trip or just hanging at your fave campground, these five albums will definitely be treasured additions to your 2017 #IndieSummerSoundtrack.
THE BAND OF HEATHENS – DUENDE
This is the 5th studio album released by the 5-member band out of Austin, TX. The Heathens put the fun in funk with the seductive beat of “Sugar Queen” and “Daddy Longlegs”, added a couple ultimate road trip tunes with “Trouble Came Early” and “Keys To The Kingdom” and then sprinkled in a blazing sing-along with “Green Grass Of California”, that would make Snoop & Buffet proud. Duende is honest and passionate – authentic rock & roll in its purest form.
BEN PHAN & THE SOUL SYMPHONY – FEAR IS THE TEACHER
Produced by 2-time Grammy winner, Matt Williams, this album is a journey of life experiences, woven into a poignant musical tapestry. Ben’s tender, silky voice layered over exquisite instrumentals will surely keep you hitting the replay button. Dance to the knee-slapping joy of “Fiddler” and “Honey”, immerse yourself in the boisterous intensity of “Beast of Desire” and renew your belief in love with “The Only One” and “Be Still My Beating Heart”.
Formed in early 2014, this four-man band from Rochester, NY came out swinging with their self-titled, debut album & hit a home run. Thanks to the the candlelight-worthy “2AM” and “Mercy”, the much needed message of “We’re All Here” and addictive songs like “Sometime Never” and “Dusty Radio” – “we’ll dance all night under the moonlight'” this summer, thanks to JYFT.
DAVID STARR – THE HEAD AND HEART
From Cedaredge, CO, David Starr has been a professional singer/songwriter and musician for more than 40 years. His new 6-song EP, was produced & arranged by John Oates, who also lends vocals and guitar to the album. All six tracks are brimming with soul-stirring imagery. Whether he’s inspiring intrigue with the title track, crooning the sultry “Waiting In The Dark” and “I’ve Come For You”, or breathing new life into an old favorite with “California Dreaming”, this album is sure to be an essential addition to your summer soundtrack.
CHRIS WEAVER BAND – LIVE IN BRAZIL
It’s one thing to produce a superb, high quality album, but to do it live? That takes exemplary musicianship, conviction & some guts and the Chris Weaver Band has done it flawlessly. The album contains 15 amazing live tracks including the bewitching “So Damn Beautiful”, the rousing “Tear Me Up” and everyone’s favorite, “California High”, which recently garnered well over ONE MILLION views on YouTube – check it out here: https://youtu.be/K-LGrPgJ4l0.
