RESIN DROPS “ONE SILVER DOLLAR”

“[Resin] deviates from the well-travelled road of dime-a-dozen electro-pop in favour of unexpected, unsettling chords and melodies, drawing on hallmarks of genres from grunge and ambient to classical, folk and industrial music, wrapped up in an exceptionally delightful downtempo bow.” (TheMusic.com,au)

“Resin’s gorgeous raspy vocals are absolutely notable. The track glides slowly along, hitting hard with the bass at the chorus. Although it sounds very much like an ambient rave track, there are things to note in the lyrics, intelligently thought out as she always is.” (IMPOSE) Born and raised in Prague, Niko Antonucci, aka Resin, now resides in Los Angeles.  Starting out as a pianist at age six and stealing her father’s guitar as a teen, she realized at a young age that in order to get the sound she wanted, she would need to do it herself and has been producing her music ever since. Resin’s music combines sophisticated melodies and sexy vocals set against dark yet catchy electronic beats. Fidget represents the evolution of her songwriting and producing capabilities. She will be celebrating her album release on September 9 at Bar Sinister.

Born and raised in Prague, Niko Antonucci, aka Resin, now resides in Los Angeles.  Starting out as a pianist at age six and stealing her father’s guitar as a teen, she cut her first demo at 15 and sang in different bands for several years. She realized at a young age that in order to get the sound she wanted, she would need to do it herself and has been producing her music ever since. The central figure and vocalist channels topics like spirituality, dark magic, grunge and being an outsider. Musically, she is inspired by genres ranging from grunge, ambient, classical, folk to industrial and artists including, Nirvana, Portishead, Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, Prokofiev and Chelsea Wolfe. “I have always adored Marilyn Monroe. I have always hated covers. And then, one day, Portishead made me change my mind. When I heard Portishead’s cover of Abba’s SOS I realized that a cover can be done tastefully. At the end of the day, my favorite song of all time ‘Where Did You Sleep Last Night’ was a Nirvana’s cover of Leadbelly’s song.

When collecting material for my album ‘Fidget’ I looked back into music that inspired me throughout the years. I thought of One Silver Dollar – sung by Marilyn Monroe; dark and beautifully haunting voice of Marilyn poetically swinging over the deep, honest lyrics.

The first time I heard this song was when I was about 13 years old. I was torn between my love for darkness of grunge and l love for femininity of the 50’s. I saw this Marilyn Monroe compilation CD on sale in a bookstore and purchased it. And as much as I loved the whole album, One Silver Dollar stood out for it’s chilling beauty.

So the moment I considered doing a cover, I instantly knew that this was the song.

I wanted to maintain the integrity and simplicity of the song and I hope I was successful. Marilyn’s voice belongs to the song so even though I played with the sound of the song quit a bit, I used Marilyn’s stunning voice to complete it and to bring the history, intensity and the emotion of the song.”

Keep your eyes peeled  for more exciting news from this blossoming artist and material from Fidget.
