About…Felix y Los Gatos

Felix Y Los Gatos is a Albuquerque, New Mexico-based band with fifteen-plus years of stage experience and an improvisational style that is uniquely their own. Formed in 2004, their sound is crafted through the cultural influences of Zydeco, Tex-Mex, Blues, and Gypsy/Jazz (Think Django Reinhardt), Swing, and a dash of Outlaw Country. Their musical diversity, which is custom-tailored to their audience, is culturally steeped in an emotionally-driven stage performance and sound that is nothing short of power-driven authenticity.

The Gatos have performed at Durango Blues Train, Telluride Blues Festival, Thirsty Ear Festival, Long Beach Crawdaddy Fest, BlissFest, Blast Furnace Blues Festival, Zion Canyon Music Festival, the Hatch Green Chile Festival, among many others. Their undying passion to play music has allowed them the privilege of sharing the stage with acts such as Big Bad VooDoo Daddy, Tab Benoit, BeauSoleil, Ozomatli, Wayne “The Train” Hancock, FishBone, Dikki Du & the Zydeco Krewe. Renowned harpist John Popper of Blues Traveler made a special guest apperance on the track “Hot Damn” from the band’s album, Ocho. One thing is certain: Felix y los Gatos are sure to get you out of your seat and dancing the night away.

Founding members Felix Peralta (a/k/a Gato Malo) & D.B. Gomez came together by way of the open mics in the Albuquerque University area, where they began playing music together. Gato, as he’s come to be known, spent his childhood watching his family play traditional (Rancheras) New Mexico music in Albuquerque’s South Valley. To this day, you can hear Malo channelling the sounds of his familia through his music and songwriting. D.B. (button accordion), originally a piano player who grew up in Santa Fe, was also exposed to the traditional sound of the New Mexico Southwest music sound and was drawn to the accordion as a way to be more mobile and versatile in his playing style with Gato.

Blending their combined musical styles, Felix y los Gatos was born. Drummer Melvin “The Honey” Crisp brings a Cajun/Zydeco rhythm like none other, while bassist Norteno Tim seals the style with rich tone and razor precision. All this makes Felix y los Gatos one of the most musically-diverse and entertaining acts in the Desert Southwest.
