FlecHaus, Austin band fronted by vocalist Megan Flechaus, has release a new single entitled “Finding” this week and it is yet another gem in the enormous treasure of music and spirit one can find in this groups work. When we first head Megan, IndiePulse called her “Austin’s newest rising star”, but we have to say in retrospect, we did not give enough credit to her compatriots in song. The entire group, Kenzie Slottow on flute; Dominick Chaillot on bass; Nathan Smith on drums; and Sara Louise, backing vocalist all have given their all in this and it is so well done. We understand that the group has been joined by Benjamin Levy on fiddle, which ads a great dynamic to the music.
Now, unlike my other reviews, I want to start with what Megan Flechaus says about her own work, you will see why in just a bit…..
“Finding “is about those times when you aren’t sure if you’re walking in the right direction, but you have no other choice but to keep going forward to see where the road ahead leads,”
“I was inspired by a visual metaphor I saw while driving from Florida to North Carolina. There was a storm on one half of the sky and a bright blue clear day on the other. My road was winding and I wondered if I was headed toward the storm of the light.”
With its upbeat bass heavy rhythm “Finding” gives you goose bumps from the start, when Megan’s voice comes in, that’s when the real party starts. Yes, I am thrilled by her singing, Megan Flechaus just has a way of connecting with the heart if those her hear her voice, just the realness, the deep meaningful tone and timber of her words are like the wind under the wings of great bird in flight, soaring higher with each breath. The message of the song is of taking chances, making a decision and sticking with it, to know that in your heart, you will make it to where you need to be, that the “Gut” feeling in your heart, is always the best measure. This is not just a single, or a song, but a spiritual awakening.
As with FlecHaus’ previous singles, “Finding” was recorded at The Compound in Austin, recorded, produced and mixed by Benjamin Alan Levy, & mastered by Chris Kress.
The band’s second single “What We’ve Got” won two L.A. Music Critic Awards this past summer: “Best Single-Group” and “Fan Favorite”. “An amazing artist primed to burst onto the indie music scene” (INDIE VOICE BLOG). “Megan Flechaus has a clear country voice that rises over a cool shuffle beat” (PROFESSOR JOHNNY P’S BLOGSPOT). “FlecHaus is changing the way music should be heard, from a place of tender honesty” (INDIEPULSE MUSIC).
