Cape Fear’s TOKE Reissue “Orange” with new tracks!
Cape Fear sludgemongers TOKE reissue out-of-print second album Orange with two new tracks
Resin-encrusted riff-fest receives the deluxe multiple limited vinyl edition treatment via boutique label STB Records on Dec. 9th
Hailing from Cape Fear, North Carolina, the same region as fellow bowl-scraping bottom-end-dwellers Weedeater and Sourvein, TOKE emerged in 2014 with the singular goal of making their brand of blues as heavy as possible through monolithic amp worship and maximum volume.
In less than three years of existence, they’ve played 150-plus shows in almost every state in the continental USA, including appearances at Psycho Las Vegas and the Maryland Doom Fest.
Following an impressive self-released debut, 2016 saw Toke unleash titanic second album Orange, which, according to Metal Bandcamp, “solidifies their position as a band to be reckoned with.” This made it a bit of a head-scratcher that the record received such a minimal initial physical release before vanishing entirely.
Enter STB Records, a label known for its exquisite collector’s edition releases and unparalleled musical instincts, and in the final month of 2017 we find ourselves abruptly treated to a lavish new reissue of Orange across four deluxe vinyl editions, complete with two new tracks to round out the glorious package.
Previous press nuggets for Orange:
“They sludge, sludge hard and sludge often. Big tones, big riffs, aggro stoner vibes.”
– The Obelisk
“Toke seamlessly blends the precise amount of head crushing, belly thumping riffs with greasy, bluesy lead breaks and melody. The vocalist’s timbre and range can only be described as an old rotary phone echoing through the silence somewhere in the desolate woods.”
– The Sludgelord
“In Toke’s world everything seems pretty bleak and dark, but the riffs are so killer and the groove is so deep and nasty that you really don’t care.“
– Metal Bandcamp
Orange was recorded in two days in Charlotte, North Carolina at Seven Doors Audio Recording studios by Rick Contes, and was mastered by the great Dennis Pleckham of Comatose Studios.
The new reissue contains the entire original track list plus two bonus covers (from a band that’s never done covers) in the form of the Cream classic “Sunshine of Your Love” and Motörhead standard “Limb from Limb,” both available only on the STB vinyl editions.
