Starting in 2014, KXLU 88.9 FM Los Angeles began producing music festivals on Loyola Marymount University’s Lawton Plaza. Since that groundbreaking year, KXLU provides a music festival every year. Countless memorable performances from the likes of No Age, So Many Wizards, The Muffs, Girl Pusher, Ariel Pink, and Boyo (just to name a few artists) have set the precedent for phenomenal local talent selection.
KXLU Fest IV is scheduled to set a new precedent for future college radio events with a phenomenal musical lineup, diverse curated vendors from all over Los Angeles, food trucks, and activities for the entire community to enjoy.
KXLU Fest IV will take place on LMU’s Lawton Plaza from Noon-6pm on March 18th.
It will be FREE, ALL AGES, open to the public, and free parking will be available.
The live music will consist of 5 talented L.A.-based bands:
MNDSGN: Properly pronounced “mind design,” Ringgo Ancheta is a psychedelic sonic sorcerer producer and performer. Pushing his craft to new dimensions on the label, Stones Throw, Ringgo established his style through cerebral trip-hop funky R&B beats. From small venues to museums and festivals, MNDSGN is a veteran of the performing arts with all kinds of tricks up his sleeve. Humbly, MNDSGN has an impressive discography with even funkier projects expected on the horizon.
Band Aparte: The post-punk shoe gaze-y rock band comprised of Brian Mendoza, Ryan Fairchild, and James Glenwright is a known group in the local underground music scene. Heavily influenced by Sonic Youth, Dead Kennedy’s, and the Screamers, Band Aparte released the album, Memory on Trial, on Manifesto Records.
Sextile: The post-punk quartet from your best industrial dream is made up of Brady Keehn, Melissa Scaduto, Eddie Wuebben, and Kenny Elkins. Sextile is a Los Angeles music scene regular having played all over Southern California. Their most recent album release on Felte Records, Albeit Living, is a high-energy post-punk piece surrounded by synth, ambient, and industrial melodies. The band’s first 2018 release, Current Affair (Feat Sienna), is a sweet reminder that Sextile is nowhere done creating dance-able, post-punk bangers.
Wild Wing: Founded in 2011, the four-piece psychedelic surf punk rock group with an impressive history of releases strikes again with their relatively recent release, Doomed II Repeat. A continuation of their fast pace straight to the face rock n roll, Doomed II Repeat keeps the listener on their toes from start to finish. Attacking with streaking guitar riffs, a steady and abrasive drummer, piercing vocals, and snaring synths, Wild Wing will forever be a part of the hearts of Los Angeles music heads.
Pinky Pinky: Up and coming 3 piece proto-prog rock band, Pinky Pinky, is made up of young bloods Isabelle Fields on the guitar, Eva Chambers rocking the bass, and Anastasia Sanchez laying down the drums and vocals. Hitting the Los Angeles music scene with a bang, Innovative Leisure signed them like no tomorrow. Their most recent release, Hot Tears, is a fun combination of punk, proto-rock, doo-wops tunes, and demented psych soul music.
