Miraculous Weapons conjures images of another world, dark, tribal and almost surreal, tethered to this plane of reality only by a silver heart-string. The album is enchanting and mystical, stirring up feelings and emotions of existence and a connection to an “Earth Mother” experience. With an elegance of deeper understanding and harmonies that transcend reality, or what we perceive as reality, it is an audio rhythmic dance.
Recorded this past winter by the french duo An Eagle in your Mind, Miraculous Weapons covers its tracks. Combining woody acoustic instruments and abstract hip hop beats, An Eagle in your Mind invites you into a paradoxical space-time. At the same time ageless as sacred music and modern as a sample calibrated on the bitumen , it is the Middle East at the same time as the American West, an austere form of minimalism as well as all the generosity of psychedelic music. It’s a lyrical trance that we could try to put in the acoustic rock box or acid folk or even abstract folk box … but if this blending works, it is that beyond styles only one thing matters : emotion.
For three years, the duo composes, records and lives nomadic, in a Mercedes van converted into a studio. If their first album Outside was born at the doors of the Moroccan desert, it is in the middle of the fresh rivers of the Ardèche (France) that Miraculous Weapons took shape. An old stone house will have offered a winter break, an opportunity for Raoul and Sophia to experiment and amass new instruments and effects.
An Eagle in your Mind is Raoul: guitar, banjo, guembri, beats (acoustic percussion and samples), back vocals and Sophia: guitar, Indian harmonium, organ, fiddle, voice.
