On Saturday, Sept. 1, the theme is “Latin Night” (performers tba).
“We’ll be playing some really smoking tunes by Billy Cobham, Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, Lalo Schifrin, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Stanley Turrentine and Crusaders,” says Michaels.
Kevin Michaels (drums, vocals, writer/arranger, producer) hails from a longtime musical family. At age twenty, he was set to possibly become a full-time member of the Beach Boys “until my father called Carl (Wilson) and told him I was not going to do anything with them and to never contact me again,” recalls Michaels, wistfully. “Voila, that put that kibosh on me (playing with the Beach Boys). I did stay in contact with them, and resented (that my dad did this) for many years thereafter.” Michaels studied his craft under some of the best – Jeff Porcaro (Toto), Alphonse Mouzon (Weather Report), and more. By his estimate, Michaels has played with hundreds of bands throughout his four-plus decade career and received a music credit on the 2006 motion picture, “The Departed.” Previously, Enigma Project hosted a successful weekly Jam Session in the High Desert at Mattie’s Blues Club in apple Valley .
