Upcycled Sounds Records presents ‘Settlements’ a new single from Zander Sharp.

Singer-songwriter, Zander Sharp, is releasing a new single, ‘Settlements’ on 13th August, a soothing introspection on the catch-22 of love and loss. In a return to his former days on the fiddle, ‘Settlements’ is the first song Zander has written solely using the violin as a base. Zander borrows from folk and jazz, combining strings, backing vocals with experimental production from Upcycled Sounds – the single includes sounds from poking a reel-to-reel tape and Zander thumping his own chest.

Settlements is the first release from Zander’ s upcoming ‘After You’ EP, recorded, produced and released by Oxford label Upcycled Sounds Records.

Zander is touring his EP during August, alongside label-mates Limpet Space Race. The tour includes shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, Bristol, London and Oxford (22nd August at Tap Social).

“After You is a lilting collection of songs looking at the different ways to find humour and strength in the wake of loss.” -Zander Sharp

About Zander Sharp

Londoner and word-nerd Zander Sharp, an experienced performer and singer-songwriter, has long been active in the Oxford music scene, having won the Holloway Arts Festival’s songwriting award at just 16 years old, followed by a self-released EP featuring members of the band Stornoway and numerous performances at local festivals and venues such as the O2 Academy Oxford. Zander, now based in Bristol, has played the fiddle for Bristol acts Slonk, Langkamer, and Kate Stapley. Borrowing bits of folk and jazz, Zander combines melodious strings and backing vocals together with his insightful lyrics to create his laid-back sound.

About Limpet Space Race

A new duo mishmashing jazz, pop and folk to bring you lush, glitchy songs and experimental noises. Limpet Space Race are Niko O’Brien and Hannah (Jakes) Jacobs, who currently live in Oxford running a recording studio, eco music festival and Upcycled Sounds Record label. Niko is a sound engineer for film, documentary and music, and spends most of his time chasing strange noises from surround sound installations to recording in sewers and up mountains. Jakes is a musician who accidentally founded a sustainability organisation, and has just escaped back to a life of arranging, producing, wonky time signatures and feminist sea shanties. Their band involves a lot of multitasking with vocals, keyboard, guitar, drums, homemade instruments and random percussive junk, to create wonky downtempo grooves and intricate soundscapes.

Their debut EP, Cartograffiti, features 4 of their very first songs, with cheerful themes of memory loss, hospitals, separation, borders and brain chemicals.
