Driven by a wish to capture the nostalgic wonder set upon him by the introduction of early 80’s dystopian anime works such as Akira and Ghost In The Shell, Ultraknife (Leo Mendez) set about trying to learn and implement all he could concerning modular synthesis and sound tech.

With Mechanical Knife being composed completely on an Elektron Digitakt during a journey to Stockholm it isn’t hard to understand the depth of Ultraknife’s production ability and concise implementation of the knowledge he has gained in the last 30 years.

It is this experience and the manner in which Ultraknife applies it throughout his music which has gained him support slots for renowned artists such as I Hate Models and Varg (Northern Electronics). This is a notable accomplishment for any musician, especially considering many of the acts that Ultraknife has had the opportunity to support have in turn influenced him earlier in his career.

Mechanical Knife is filled with composite synthetic textures, everchanging synth tones and percussive hits and arpeggiators help to create an expeditious and dynamic soundscape, whilst also adhering to an undiluted and ominous theme.  Having also secured features from a number of reputable and well connected blogs it is clear that Ultraknife and his music is taken seriously, this paired with a continuously growing social media presence will help Ultraknife to make the desired impact. Mechanical Knife was released on the 6th of September 2018 and is available across all major aggregators.
