IndieShout Out: The Holographic Children
The Holographic Children is an art and music project created by Kyle Lim based in Bay Area, California. Kyle was born in Riverside, CA on April 26, 1990, but spent most of his childhood in the Philippines.
It wasn’t until 2001 that he moved back to California, now a strange place to him. The culture shock and language barrier made him feel alien to his own homeland. These are the places where his songs and art come from. An inner world of the outer; nostalgic love songs for the outsider, set floating in space.
When Kyle was in high school he and his cousins, Kevin Francisco (Medium Franc) and Kimo Francisco (Kimo $lice), formed an indiepop/twee band called Camera Shy, despite not knowing how to play a single note. It was during this time when Kyle fell in love with song writing as it was also the most formative years of his sound. The Smiths, Pixies, Belle and Sebastian, Bloc Party, Joy Division were his early sources but is now also inspired by Ariel Pink, Danny Brown, Gorillaz, and Death Grips.
He learned how to play guitar by writing songs. After his band with Kevin and Kimo broke off he joined other bands but were short lived. After many disappointments with joining groups he decided he would get further making music alone. He learned how to play bass, drums, and keys by writing more songs. He’s been featured in Medium Franc’s recent projects “The Holographic Interlude” from the album No Dancing at the Pity Party, and executively produced Medium Franc’s 225508 EP.
Kyle is currently in his home studio working on his L.O.Love EP which is set to come out in November in which he explores the combination of art (comics and music videos) and music that open new ways of experiencing a world of sound. Before that you can find his early EP’s on Bandcamp.
