Album Review: Chris Bennett: “Something Wonderful” by Addison Coleman
Grammy nominee Chris Bennett along with jazz pianist Bill Marx has recently released their brand new 9 track album entitled “Something Wonderful.” The release is a timeless fascination of jazzy, bluesy, soulful, melodies performed flawlessly both vocally and instrumentally. Filled with emotion and passion the album softly brings you back to times gone by, a time of mellow patience, and a quiet calmness.
A cozy, blazing fireplace, enhanced by fragrant candles, a glass of red wine and a good friend or lover is the perfect setting to enjoy “Something Wonderful”. The album is an authentic, no tricks, vocal and piano concert, with songs including: “My One And Only Love”, “I Have Dreamed” “September Song”, a jazz driven, “We’ll Be Together Again”, and a very emotional “Goodbye”. The title track, “Something Wonderful”, originally from “The King And I”, is a superb rendition of the original, with a remarkable arrangement.
Chris Bennett began her show biz career as a dancer. She has appeared backing Donna Summers, and has worked with the likes of Johnny Mathis, and Rita Coolidge. Bennett has written songs for Tina Turner, The Manhattan Transfer, and Three Degrees, as well as writing and singing the theme song from the movie, “Midnight Express”, which earned her a Grammy nomination.
Jazz great, Bill Marx, the son of Hollywood icon Harpo Marx, actually arranged his dad’s most famous repertoire for the harp. Together he and Bennett have created a journey through time that can be appreciated and cherished by all, no matter what age. The album is ready for download on iTunes and other digital venues, for a peak at the past through their music.
