Artist Spotlight: VEE 303 and her new Video “Wounded” Make for a Passionate Experience
Blending pop, trip-hop and future R&B to mesmerizing effect, VEE 303’s upcoming single ‘Wounded’ offers further insight into her unique musical vision. The German born fashion designer turned singer went to a boarding school for the supremely gifted with restricted access to the outside world. With alumni including Nietzsche, she studied classical music intensely before discovering life beyond the Cisterian monastery walls.
Founding a fashion label at 21 and taking prompts from Berlin’s hedonistic underground, her accessories proved popular, and tastemakers like Lil Uzi Vert, Lina Tesch and Kicki Yang Zhang were quick to adorn her custom chokers and harnesses. Now focusing purely on music, her debut single ‘Innocence’, a smooth, downtempo introduction, placed her around the sonic realms of FKA Twigs, Kelela, and ABRA.
Latest offering ‘Wounded’ is its evocative and transgressive follow up about needing to feel physical pain in order to free ourselves from the emotional kind. Her releases are featured by RinseFM, ByteFM, Kaltblut, Complex, High Snobiety, Diffus and many more. At the moment VEE 303 is working on new tracks that are to be released in 2019.
In Review: ‘Wounded’ is an amazing video, both musically and visually, it has a dark and foreboding feel, yet burns with sensuality and passion. It conveys and emotion that so many feel yet can never put into words or express without being overwhelmed by reliving the painful moments time and time again. The music is moving and moment by moment changes pace and tone to become more than it was just moments ago.
We asked VEE 303 about ‘Wounded’, her vision and what her musical inspirations are…
IPM: While watching ‘Wounded’, we were captivated by the sunning visual settings and its cinematic quality, the video is synchronous with the imagery, what was it like for you to create this?
VEE 303: I have a really strong vision of what I what I want to create, not just sound-wise but also visually. I feel no distinction in being productive in different art forms – it all comes together to an universal picture of what I am striving to communicate. It was an intense experience bringing all the ideas to life and to translate the music into atmospheres and pictures.
IPM: can you tell us what was the inspiration for this song, you, in the video have a strong connection to the driving emotions.
VEE 303: Wounded is about the dynamic of control between two people and how it can be a liberating experience to just let someone take over. It can give you some kind of freedom to not worry about the world for a second and indulge yourself in the moment. It is a reflection on how I experience salvation through pain and the contradictory forces of violence and beauty.
IPM: What are some upcoming things we can look forward to, and will there be any upcoming events to see you perform live?
VEE 303: I am in the process of creating new soundscapes and songs at the moment and I am looking forward to share it with the world soon!
