IndiePulse Interviews: PRIME

PRIME is an indie rock n’ roll band from Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire. They “make noisy guitar rock and usually leave a trail of debris behind on the stage”.

IPM: What inspired you to write music like you do?

Just growing up listening to powerful rockin’ music like Nirvana, Bowie, The Stones, Queen, Suede and anything else that rocks your socks off. And wanting to be a part of that.

IPM: Tell us about the other members of the band, and of your chemistry?

We are myself, lead vocals, Kieran Hill on lead guitar, and James Alick on drums. We’re all quiet, unassuming dudes with a dry sense of humor… until we get up on stage, then it’s a different story. We’ve just started working with a local musician called Jeff Boydon who we respect very much, so chemistry and enjoyment of what we do is at a high water mark at the moment.

IPM: What are or were some of the challenges for you in producing or performing while keeping true to your vision of your music?

Absolutely no challenge whatsoever. We write the music we like to write. Our last produced music was at the Animal Farm in London and our producers Jamie and Ville kept the music tight and with no frills, maybe we were guilty of overcooking the mix in the past. As far as selling out in any way? No chance.

IPM: Tell us about some of your recent shows.

Recent highlights for us have just been getting great audience feedback, whether its supporting a name band like Electric Six at a large venue like the o2 Academy or rocking up for a charity show at a local bar, we’re equally happy. Like I said a minute ago, things tend to get trashed, mic stands, etc.! We’re back into the live flow with this short September tour to promote our latest single ‘In Summer’, and loving every second.

IPM: Any more releases coming out soon?

We’re still pushing ‘In Summer’ as it’s literally just been released, and the video on YouTube is getting a really nice response, we filmed it on Hunstanton Beach and had a great time, thinking it might be a dreary day but ended up getting burnt whilst flying drone cameras above our heads!

IPM: Any “strange tales” or things that may have happened during a show that seemed too weird to be true?

All the weird hecklers that we get, and when you’re starting out you always get band dancers at the front… but bring ‘em on!  Our old bassist Daniel Ison answered his mobile phone to his girlfriend during a set at the o2 Academy which was really funny… most things involving Dan Ison were too strange to be true, he was great. Still owes me a bass guitar though (laughs).

IPM: Where do you see your music going

Just to be profitable and reaching a higher level with bigger shows and releases really. You can dream as much as you want but if people don’t want to watch or listen then it’s a waste of time. The dream should be to be number one, obviously!

IPM: What would you like our readers to know about you?

Just that we are a band who are good live and have quality songs that stick around long after you’ve heard them. Check out our tunes ‘In Summer’ ‘Bye Bye’ and ‘To Be Or Not To Be’ on Spotify (the first two are on youtube too) and you’ll know if you like us I’m sure!

IPM: Where can our readers find your music?

Our official site is primeband.co.uk and you can find all links on there. Enjoy!
