Artist Spotlight: The Daisy Heaves
The Daisy Heaves is a musical project that was started by Ryan Dahl in Chicago in October of 2015…the band has had many different members coming and going since its formation with Dahl being the only consistent member of the group, as well as the primary songwriter. Dahl is currently in the process of reforming the live incarnation of the band and is currently recording a new full length album. Due for release later this year.
The Daisy Heaves have released their track “Someone”, a song with significant meaning, the track is available on Bandcamp, all proceeds from the sale of this music will be donated to support Thresholds, a charitable organization dedicated to care and treatment of Mental Illness.
Ryan Dahl of The Daisy Heaves tell us about why they are supporting this cause: “I decided to donate the proceeds from this album to thresholds because of my friend and former bandmate, Jason William Paszek (known as Jason Williams to some). Jason had a band called Animal Holograms. I met him and joined his band towards the end of 2014. Shortly after joining the band, Jason and I moved into an apartment in Chicago and we started constantly writing and recording songs. I had just been starting out as a songwriter and Jason was miles ahead of me.
Over the course of that first year we lived together we played shows in Chicago and recorded an EP entitled “phantasmagoric menagerie” and upon releasing it Jason decided we would donate the proceeds to Thresholds, a nonprofit organization based in Chicago that provides valuable services for mentally ill people….Jason passed away over a year ago and I didn’t know how to deal with it when it happened…..at the time that he passed I had stopped writing and playing much music for the better part of a year. When he died I wrote new songs as my way of mourning. Shortly after writing the material I recorded it with the current band members I had working with me at a recording studio in Hickory Hills called DZ records. Upon releasing “Gramophone Ghost” I decided to donate the proceeds to thresholds because I want to help others and this record is a tribute to Jason, his life, music, and everything he taught me along the way and it’s what he would have wanted.”
