AV SUPER SUNSHINE Releases New Album CANDYLAND (REMIXES, VOL. 1) to a Music Scene with a Sweet Tooth

CANDYLAND (REMIXES, VOL. 1) is a Joyful Synth/Rock and Pop-ish ride through the looking glass, the music of AV Super Sunshine takes a personal dilemma and makes it the foundation for healing and recovery in a way that makes it a shared experience that is a celebration of this life we live.
Taking a cue rom the “Love Movement” style that was invoked by the new beat generation so many years ago, the inner peace theory finds a new and powerful home on the album CANDYLAND (REMIXES, VOL. 1).
For the multi-talented songwriter, guitarist and performer who re-invented himself as AV Super Sunshine, it’s been the fuel taking him over the last decade from a diagnosis of PTSD, severe depression and anxiety disorder to the cusp of indie rock and dance stardom.
Two of the keys to his fascinating journey have been Ben Folds’ RCA Victor Studio A (where Elvis, Dolly Parton and the Monkees recorded) and a powerhouse collaboration with veteran pop/R&B producer Michael Bradford, whose superstar resume includes Anita Baker, Madonna, Kid Rock and Deep Purple.
The perfect combination of the deeply personal and the engagingly universal, AV’s upcoming album Candyland is a riveting collection of 14 songs which turns the wild story of all of his medications and medical hypnosis adventures into pure pop, rock and dance delights. “I created it in the hopes that maybe my story could help people like me,” he says. The artist lay the foundation for the release of the full album with CANDYLAND (REMIXES, VOL. 1), which includes a total of 10 tracks – seven unique mixes and three radio edits.
The first three sets of Candyland mixes (of the songs “Time Bomb,” “Apple” and “Orange”) each hit #1 on the Starfleet crossover and dance club charts. Their pool director reported that a record 48,000 DJs had downloaded them. “Time Bomb” was subsequently released to radio, where it charted “#2 on the Euro Indie Music Top 200, #47 on DRT Global Pop Airplay Top 50 and #93 on the DRT Global Airplay Top 200. AV’s unique, multi-genre rollout approach is to continue to chart with new tracks until rock radio is aware enough of his music to play the original pop-rock mixes on the full album.
True to its title, “Time Bomb” builds hypnotically towards a fiery, explosive hook. AV says, “I’m always working on a ‘time bomb,’ ready to blow up something. It perfectly describes PTSD. I can still close my eyes and see the abuse I experienced which led to my diagnoses – and it makes me want to start breaking stuff in my mind.” “Apple” has a dynamic, jangling pop/rock edge, with a calming message that includes the lines “new day will come/sunshine for everyone” and “puppies and kitties and birds that fly from their cage.” “Orange” is a mid-tempo synth rock driven love song to his current romantic partner Philomena, whom he credits with saving his life.
AV laid the foundation for the epic Candyland project by working on electronic pop/rock recordings with Michael Bradford, whom he met while working on previous recordings at Folds’ studio; these sessions included Bradford on bass and featured some of Folds’ vintage keyboards. The AV-Bradford album collaboration Bass Face did well on college radio and quickly yielded five crossover club hits and three dance club hits on the Starfleet charts. Keeping with that formula, Bradford started working on a collection of electronic pop rock mixes from the studio recording of Candyland.
“Once the music is all released,” AV says, “I envision creating a movie based on these songs and my life – about how I got sick, about me at the shrink doing hypnosis and dosing on the anti-depressant I call Candyland, and my journey out of this cycle through music and living my musical dreams as AV Super Sunshine. Sometimes, the only way to survive this and create a meaningful live is to completely re-imagine yourself.”
