Artist Spotlight: Just Drive
Since the release of their debut EP last summer, Just Drive have been focusing on honing our live performance and writing new music. Since forming the band in early 2017, Just Drive have played regular shows around the UK from festivals to local independent welsh venues (Clwb For Bach, Hobos, Fuel..) and higher capacity venues such as the O2 Academy Birmingham. These four childhood friends from the Welsh Valleys have a great way of making music and it shows and sounds in the mix.
Their next single “Charmer” (Recorded and produced by Nick Brine at Rockfields Studios) is the lead track from the forthcoming EP. Amongst recording, filming videos, playing shows and self-promoting, Just Drive have been spending time writing alongside Max Rafferty (The Kooks) to develop the 2nd EP to its full potential.
Frontman Ryan Ward has a strong love for the Killers and King’s of Leon, which comes through in his vocal style and rhythmic guitar playing. The killers are one of the main influences for the band, another nod towards their style can be seen in the form of their drummer James Orwin’s simple yet musical playing. Bass Guitarist Dan Gullet and lead Guitarist Chris Bowen complete the line up adding a taste of their own influences from Catfish & The Bottlemen, Mumford & Sons and Stereophonics. But don’t think they are just trying to sound like their influences, Just Drive is wholly new and fresh and take a very “tongue in cheek” approach to things, taking the music making process seriously, yet taking life by the horns and steering it forward. A great band with a great future.
