Stone Stanley is the musical project of singer/songwriter Jason Robert, based out of Hesperia California, a high desert community in San Bernardino County, some consider the last bastions of “The Wild West” rooted in blues, rock and folk, the Stone Stanley musical experience is eclectic and oozing with Americana.
Jason Robert brings his powerful interpretation of an emotionally breathtaking style of music, which he endears as “Mudstomp” a hypnotic and piercing to the soul piercing sound that mesmerizes the listener, it is a sublime and haunting, and performed in a way that gives one chills, and hearkens to a different time.
“The Death of Stone Stanley” is Jason Robert’s latest release, and is an album that will set the standard for this style of music, with dark overtones and at times macabre lyrics, such as his cover of the 1926 Blind Willie Johnson classic, “John the Revelator”, this artist has found the voice of the lost and brings it to the light of day.
But, to add diversity to his album, Robert brings in the sounds one would hear at a revival, like in the track “Soul Of A Man”, one may vision a preacher upon a stage, mounting a sermon while juggling snakes and glorifying the word. In the track “Never Gonna Die”, there is a sense of infamy, invulnerability and yet, sounds like one wishing for an end to their struggles and torment… true down home blues if ever you hear them.
There is a softer side to the music on “The Death of Stone Stanley”, in “Woke Up This Morning” there is contemplation and wisdom in both lyric and music, the flow of energy is phenomenal. when listening to his music, one can never say enough about the talent and drive of Jason Robert, as one is several albums he has worked on, his “Mudstomp Music” is the best, full and rough, Robert has said it’s “a very muddy sound predicated on the back-beat of drums and distorted acoustic guitars with a lot of re-verb on the drums and vocals. It’s something that has organically grown out of my solo work. The feeling is one of stomping through the Desert during a Mid-Summer rain on a Saturday night.” Musically, Robert says, “it encompasses an eclectic mix of blues, folk, rock, and a hint of reggae, that takes on a life of its own.”
