Hotel Lux – Daddy
1 Sir Robert Orange Peel – Ravers (2)
The man’s a fucking genius, not many tracks can capture what a rave sounds like coming out of a Croydon light industrial estate at 4 in the morning
2 Audiobooks – Friends In The Bubblebath (18)
Great tune with shades of New York old school club about it. Sort of thing BOP remember’s hearing in Red Hook back in the early 2000’s .
3 Sleeves – Out on the Dancefloor (19)
Hong Kong rockers and their Wanchai rock sound still reverberates on sweaty beery nights down by the harbour.
4 R.M.F.C – The Clue (100)
Garage will never die as long as there are cheap guitars and amps on offer and in our book these things are important for civilisation to continue.
5 Ossia – Hell Version (270)
Out of Bristol ( we think?) We suggest playing this and Sir Robert Orange Peel’s “Ravers” back to back on repeat for about two days to give you that desperately needed bass overload ! All the tracks on this new 12″ are worth checking out. Top release.
6 Faux Ferocious – Price of Progress 362)
Ok , yes this is a bit Brooklyn 2006 in a Rapture kind of way but it still works. He sounds as though he means what he’s singing and it’s a top bass line.
7 Low Life – The Pitts (410)
Yaaay – Sydney’s Low Life are back and still on form. Ok it’s a bit cleaner than early days but who are we to complain. All we can hope for that it stirs Melbourne’s Cuntz back into action .. we miss them so much.Solid Mates is still one of the best things about this century
8 Tiger & Woods – Balloon (485)
More updated Italo repeato house 4 to the floor from the current masters of the form. Amalfi Motorik we shall call it
9 The Proper Ornaments – Please Release Me (488)
And the Proper Ornaments are back too and they have just gone into the stratosphere with this one. The opening coda and chorus just has us enthralled. Somehow all of Pet Songs & Revolver shoved into one song but not a hint of nostalgia. Maybe this is what the LA’s really wanted to sound like. Absolutely hooked.
10 Electric Potato – Another Brick In The Wall (857)
Current Italo cover of late era Floyd with the silliest outfit name of the year so far. We love it and so should you.
