IndieShout-Out: Mark Jared and the melodious art of NIMBUS
Mark Jared is an up and coming musical artist who just released his debut two-track EP, “Fruit For Dessert”.
Originally from LA, and currently based in Chicago, Mark Jared is a producer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter.
While this may be his debut, Mark Jared is no stranger to the music scene. He got his start in October of 2018 with a lofi project titled “the vibes ep” under the pseudonym “DJ Sleepy Boi” which was followed by an indie-pop collaborative EP, “The Unhappening” with singer-songwriter Esther Young in February 2018.
Mark Jared continued his path with the formation of a funk and R&B inspired pop group, Amohbe, who released a debut album in April 2018 titled “Nimbus”.
Highlights from these project include the music video for the title track off of Amohbe’s “Nimbus” which has 850 views on YouTube and “Something New” off of “the vibes ep” which garnered over 2,250 plays on SoundCloud and can be found in cabvno’s mix “Lonely Friday” which currently boasts over 400,000 youtube views.
Since “Nimbus”, Mark Jared has been in the lab, taking his time to craft his debut project “Fruit For Dessert”, released on February 21st with an accompanying visual.
Fruit for Dessert is a mini-EP comprised of two songs: “Shouldn’t’ve” and “Together”. On the first track, “Shouldn’t’ve”, Mark Jared recounts his regrets over a quirky bedroom-pop tune. He laments that he “Shouldn’t’ve gone to that party” and he “Shouldn’t’ve talked to that girl” as a groovy bassline bounces underneath funky synths, guitar chords, and dancy drums.
The second song, “Together”, is Mark Jared’s take on a lofi house song. “We’re all just lonely people living together” is the anthem that gets repeated throughout the track. The song’s message may seem bleak at first, but “Together” was given a more hopeful title purposefully.
While we may be intrinsically lonely, we can find solace “living together” and happiness in the comfort of others. Underneath these looped vocals sit a rhythmic house beat accompanied by lo-fi sonics consisting of a sweet chord progression on the keys, a triumphant trumpet, and a gently synth melody.
