Dreampop duo Very Heaven released their second single, “The Gamekeeper”. Their fresh track is a blissful merge of guitars, synths and vocal harmonies that captures the feeling of easy anticipation hanging out in the sun on one of those crisp days in early spring. Along with the single the Norwegian duo are releasing a music video, offering a glimpse into their life and surroundings in Oslo.
The track starts off with an atmospheric hum of guitars and synths, soon joined by Iselin’s expressive voice carefully enveloped in hazy guitars. Multiple layers of harmonizing vocals dominate the chorus, and subdued synths and organs as a base throughout the song drives it forward, resulting in an overall dreamy feel.
“The Gamekeeper” is about being a “keeper” of one’s life, which can be an overwhelming thought. Sometimes you feel like a stranger in your own life, It’s such a weird sensation when something so near to you ends up feeling completely alien”, Iselin Sørvoll explains.
The duo likes to be in charge of every aspect of their music, and write and arrange everything together. Working at home before going into the studio allows for a lot of experimentation, and their music comes to life in Iselin’s living room.
“We’re quite particular with our music, and like to be in control and explore different approaches before the songs are set in stone in the studio. Starting the process at home – with no pressure, a whole lot of time and an outrageous amount of tea – we’ve been experimenting with recording, adding layers upon layers until we get the feeling we are looking for”, says Silje Espevik.
“The Gamekeeper” is Very Heaven’s second release and a continuation of the atmospheric soundscape they introduced on their debut, Little Things. They are still fresh to the music scene, but are planning for much more to come and are ready to take their music out into the world.
