I Couldn’t Help But Love You is a classically penned song in the traditional Blues fashion, but with a modern and powerful lyrical performance in the way only Karen Lawrence can offer, in a stunning and riveting lyrical performance, you feel the strength of her emotional connection to the backstory of the songs creation. We have all wanted that love, the all encompassing and life obsessing love, the connection between two souls that can never be broken, and in this song we see what that love can be, and makes us want it so much more, and with Karen’s help, we can feel it for ourselves.

In commentary, Karen reflects upon her song I Couldn’t Help But Love You herself:

“Straight from the heart is how I describe this song. It came to me suddenly as I stood in my house in the door to the hallway. I never moved as the lyric and melody rolled out in about 15 minutes. After another 15 minutes, guitar and paper now in hand, I messed with the chords, made a few tweaks to the verse, and it was done!

I was writing like mad at the time – inspired by the major professional, emotional, and spiritual drama I was going through and there’s a little of that ‘weighty stuff’ between the lines of this otherwise sweet, sincere, and straight forward ‘love declaration’.

Musically, I couldn’t be more pleased with how the song’s simplicity shines in the capable hands of Rick Dufay – rhythm guitar, Charlie Diaz – bass, Dan Potruch – drums, and Jeff Paris – lead guitar & keyboards. Finally, all is nicely strung together in the mix by producer Jack Douglas.

It’s satisfying to me when a song goes this way – easily, spontaneously, unabashed, and straight from the heart.”
