Experimental Psych band from Montreal, Canada.  This is the U.S. re-issue limited to 300 LPs with a different cover and on Bubblegum Pink vinyl.  The first press was from the U.K. by Stolen Body Records and sold out.

In an interview with Psychadelic Baby Magazine –

“Paul Jacobs, presently residing in Montreal Quebec, has come a long way since his original one man band days. Five years later, with a full band backing him, his live shows have grown to an explosive level. The experience is an untamed, wild and manic energy, a true purge of raw emotions. Paul writes, performs, records and mixes all the music he releases. He has released eight full length albums, numerous EP’s and singles, always accompanied by his personal animations and art work. He’s gained notoriety with the success of 2016’s Pictures, Movies & Apartments. Paul continues to grow as an artist, with Easy; and acclaimed by Iggy Pop no less, on his BBC6 music show – an album he’s jam packed with pop hooks, while maintaining his original lo-fi sound. He has relentlessly toured North America, and the U.K. and is scheduled to return to Europe this fall to promote Easy.”

Despite being fairly new to the Montreal scene, psychedelic/garage madman, Paul Jacobs. has been busy, putting out 5 full length albums and few 7’’ and playing everything from big festivals such as M For Montreal to DIY venues.

In doing so, he has shared the stage with bands including Pypy, The Demon’s Claws, The Gooch Palms, Les Marinellis and Guantanamo Baywatch to name a few. Keeping true to his DIY ethos, he did video for his latest singles all his artworks.

Though he has been setting stages on fire as a one-man army for as long as we can remember, he is now performing as a 4 piece which renders his catchy melodic garage even more incendiary.

His unique endeavor has caught the attention of Consequence Of Sound during Pop Montreal and other medias such as I Heart and Still In Rock are also paying close attention to his dealings. He’s getting regular radio plays and even held the top spot on Windsor’s CJAM, his hometown radio.

In Review:

The main reason I am always overjoyed when offered to review a title on the Nomad Eel Label, their constant search for groundbreaking artists. I am personally new to the music of Paul Jacobs and I have to ask myself “Where has this been all my life”, the EASY album has a sound this is reminiscent of artist like Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Velvet Underground, XTC, Bauhaus and Love & Rockets, but a modern flow and feel, the intricacies of the music composition, while sounding like wild white noise is also verbose and enthralling, thrilling and hypnotic.

Starting with the track Holy Holy, Paul Jacobs takes you on a mystical and psychedelic  ride through his compositions, some songs, like Life Lessons ll has a voice over vocals that sound like William S Burroughs, well known as the “Junkie Priest” of literature and pop culture fame, if so this puts Paul Jacobs in the same league as Frank Zappa and Andy Warhol, making him a new world visionary Musician and Artist.

Tracks of Sincere Merit:

The title track EASY is a frolicking free ride, a summer in sound, a tribute to the freestyling of youth and the devil may care life of our teenage years, a time before reality sets in.  the track Setting Sun has a very interesting opening, then into a T-Rex style rhythm that is a march to beat, call to arms for this generation. Going through the tracks, some have an ambient quality that harks on the surreal, like the track Cigarettes and the bonus cuts Feels Like Forever, Sixteen and Nothing is Real, which round out this offering perfectly.

After listening to the album EASY, I went back to listen to other albums by Paul Jacobs, which I definitely encourage you to do.
