The Cincinnati-based duo were recently nominated in the “Best Video” category for their video “Leaving It All Behind” by the 2019 L.A. Music Critic Awards.

‘Female Power Duo’  The Spear Shakers (guitarist/vocalist Kelly Richey; percussionist Sherri McGee) hit the road for two big shows this weekend: An appearance at the Women Of Blues Cincinnati, at Southgate House Revival, 111 E. 6th St., in Newport, Sunday, September 28, 2pm, $10, all ages, info: (859) 431-2201 or visit; and performing in Cincinnati at MVP Sports Bar & Grille, 6923 Plainfield Rd., Saturday, September 28, 8pm, free, info: (513) 794-1400 or visit, on a cool triple-bill with Earle Diamond (formerly of the Afghan Whigs) and Chalk Eye.

Kelly Richey, dubbed “Queen of the Road Warriors” by WHAS-TV Channel 11 in Louisville, has twenty-five years of touring and sixteen albums on her lengthy resume, including a stint as lead guitarist on Stealin Horses, a popular Kentucky-based rock group once signed to Arista Records. Drummer Sherri McGee is an in-demand session musician who previously was a member of successful rock group Velvet Elvis on Enigma Records.

Richey was recently profiled on Blues Highway, whose Host, Garry Goldsmith, wrote, “Kelly Richey may be the hardest-working recording artist in the business. She has a natural Blues voice that she pairs with a Rock ‘n’ Roll soul.  With those two components firmly rooted in Americana, she has developed a unique style.  She has a sensibility about her approach to music, and prides herself in being independent in producing her work.  All of this together is a pleasurable listening experience that one can not get enough of. Can you tell I’m a fan?”

“The raw power, electrifying force and psychedelic sound of these two stars is certainly powerful. McGee’s blues-rock grooves lay a thundering foundation for Richey’s masterful guitar jams.
