Dark Serenity takes influence from the best of the raw, unfiltered/unedited sounds of late 60’s rock n’ roll, the riff-driven grooves of the 70’s, and the hard-hitting, high gain and treble guitar tones of 80’s metal to make their sound. They are passionate about the revival of rock and metal music, and its subculture, in its purest form.
IPM: What inspired you to write music like you do?
The Kings of Rock N’ Roll (Zeppelin, The Who, Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple)
IPM: Who is Dark Serenity?
Kate, our Guitarist and Vocalist, Mike on Drums and Percussion, Zach the Bassist.. We’re all pretty chill.
IPM: What are or were some of the challenges for you in producing or performing while keeping true to your vision of your music.
There all no challenges for us. We write music for us, the music we like to listen to. We believe if you conform to what everyone else wants, you’re weak and don’t truly love your music. Why let someone else control your art? Your personal expression? If someone else has input or does it for you, then it is no longer yours.
IPM: Tell us about some of your recent shows / performances?
We recently got back from a national tour, and our homecoming show was at The Sanctuary, in Detroit. It was a great show, a lot of people came out and rocked with us. We saw some new fans, but it’s always awesome to see the longtime fans.
IPM: Any Albums coming out soon or shows you are looking to promote?
We will be hopefully be releasing our Sophomore album Tarot sometime in 2020. We’re also playing shows constantly in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Pontiac, and Lansing, so just check out or social media to see where were at and what we’re doing.
IPM: Any “strange tales” or things that may have happened during a show that seemed too weird to be true?
We were playing a show and this man was so inebriated, he passed out on the concrete, smashed his face on the way down. Now this particular venue was wayyyy over capacity, so they just set him up on a milk box and left, instead of calling the cops or EMT. Another time, we played in Wichita, so well actually that numerous people claimed that we “changed their lives”. Also some guy gave Kate a guitar, then they had us sign a cymbal and nailed to the wall next to the one Black Flag signed when they played there.
IPM: Where do you see your music going, where would you like to be in the near future, goals, dreams and passions?
We think with our next release, it will reach a lot more people, and hopefully bring a new age of Rock because honestly, the next album is going to be so goddamn fantastic.
IPM: What would you like our readers to know about you?
Well first off, if you see us live, you’ll never forget it. It sounds arrogant, but it’s true. Second, our mission is to bring back Rock N’ Roll to the top, where it belongs. Third, we want to inspire people to pick up an instrument, or learn to sing, join a band, or just create real music. Lord knows we need real music now more than ever.
IPM: Where can our readers find your music
You can find our music on every major streaming platform.
