Interview with Hooked Like Helen
Thanks so much for having us! We are currently preparing to head to L.A. this week for some Hooked Like Helen shows! We’re super excited about our show at The Study in Hollywood on Nov. 22nd – it will be our first time on a CA stage in 6 years, and our first time EVER as Hooked Like Helen. Nikki grew up out there, and we met in L.A., so we have a lot of memories, friends and family that we can’t wait to be reunited with!
What have been your greatest achievements in 2019?
We love that question! We’ve had so much happen this year and we’ve been working super hard, pretty much without taking a breath, so we haven’t really taken a moment to stop and reflect! We released an EP this year, ‘Tragedy Of Physics’, which was a proud moment for us – we really dove into self-production in our home studio on this release and we’re definitely proud of it! Getting to be a part of the film ‘High Strung Free Dance’ which released last month has been a huge honor for us as well.
Where are you headed for 2020?
2020 is going to be Hooked Like Helen’s year! 🙂 We have plans to take a mini-break over the holidays (probably won’t last more than a week, knowing us haha) and then we will hit the ground running in 2020! We have some new music to track, and we plan to arrange for a summer tour! Might make another music video, too…lots of fun stuff! 🙂
Please tell us about your latest single release!
Technically our latest single release is our song ‘Liar’ as part of the ‘High Strung Free Dance’ motion picture soundtrack. It’s weird because we actually wrote the song a few years ago, but it’s taken us on this amazing journey with the film, and has been through a few studio versions before becoming what it is today!
Your new video is gorgeous! What is the story behind the vid?
Thank you so much! The making of this vid was literally magical for us. Because of the song’s role in the film, with a dance sequence performed by Juliet Doherty and choreographed by Tyce Diorio, we had the opportunity to shoot this music video and incorporate scenes from the movie. We never dreamed we’d have people as talented as Juliet and Tyce and everyone from HSFD involved in our art in this way and it’s mind-blowing. We flew to Bucharest, Romania, where much of the film was shot, and worked with the insanely gifted Viorel Sergovici, Bogdan Albu, and Stefan Petcu to create our performance footage for the music video. The location – this old Romanian mansion – was unreal. It felt like we stepped into a painting! And the whole crew was so professional and talented, AND nice!! It was amazing, truly!
