Bring It On Home (Grooveyard Records), the debut studio disc by this hard-working band from Valparaiso, Indiana featuring the dual twin-guitar attack of father and son, Rocco Calipari Sr. and Rocco Calipari, Jr has received worldwide critical acclaim since being released in 2018. They’re on a mission to rock the blues, family-style.

Rocco Calipari Sr. is a skilled teacher of guitar, who, since 1995, has also played lead guitar for renowned Chicago-based blues group, Howard and The White Boys. Famed blues guitar great and Legends club owner Buddy Guy – who lent his skills to H&TWB’s album, on The Big Score – has been a longtime mentor the group. During his long career, Calipari Sr. – one of Chicago’s great contemporary blues guitarists – has played with Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Carl Weathersby, Son Seals, and many more, in some forty states and twelve countries around the world.

Rocco Jr. first sat in with Howard and the White Boys when he was fifteen years old. He attended the Guitar Institute in Los Angeles where he studied with Carl Verheyen (of SuperTramp renown), jazz/blues great Scott Henderson, and famed blues instructor/writer, Keith Wyatt. His approach to the guitar, while grounded in rock and blues, is keenly aimed at a post-modern interpretation of American roots music.

What The Media Is Saying: Head Honchos & Bring It On Home

“The blues are a dynamic art form, and when they are rocking they are even better. Head Honchos truly deliver on both accounts in their latest release, Bring it on Home, with 13 outstanding blues rock tracks. Everyone is worthy of attention. The blues guitar will grab your attention while the smoky vocals will keep your toes tapping and your ears on full alert. We think it will become a timeless part of your collection.”

“What are the Head Honchos? Besides a great name for a band they’re a father-son guitar wrecking crew playing blues-based rock and roll that might be described as a blitzkrieg of sound. Their latest effort, “Bring It On Home”, blows the doors off of conventional descriptions or hip adjectives. This stuff will melt the wax out of your ears. The dual guitar assault of Rocco Calipari Sr. and his son Rocco Jr. harkens back to a time when the philosophy of more guitars the better was fashionable. Nowadays we’re fortunate in a band if there is one person who can play moderately well.”

“Blues/Rock with a twin guitar lead, gravelled vocals and driving rhythm section. Right out of the gate this had me gripped. A strong undertone of funk in their music and a great snap to their playing. Thirteen tracks and every one shows a different side of the band, whether it is the funk of ‘Work’ or the hard Blues of ‘Going Down’ or the sweet Blues/Rock of ‘Soul Free’ ( a great closer for the album). They don’t try to reinvent a very successful wheel but rather go to the heart of the music and revel in the power and the freedom of playing music that moves them.”
