with a tongue in cheek montage of street dancing and dance hall scenes, 50’s style B/W artist video interjection and people just enjoying life backs up a song with some fantastic Country Rock tones, this song is a mover, just makes you want to jump up and join in.
Hailing proudly from Birmingham Alabama, brothers Austin and Chad Thomas form the genre-bending duo, AC Thomas. While the strength of the duo is the unit, there’s a lot to enjoy individually. Chad is the quietly intense singer/songwriter accompanied by his guitar skills. Austin’s energy shines with his country rap keeping the audience engaged. The duo co-writes all their material and mastering their craft is their priority.
Birmingham Entertainment label head, Ron Pole, picked up Austin and Chad quickly. To further develop the group whose sound originated @ Epic Studios in Birmingham, the label combined forces with producer, Johnny Boy Wilson. After completing the first few songs, it was decided that live instruments would be the addition needed to take their music to the next level.
Johnny Boy took the duo to Nashville to team up with producer, Sean Giovanni and went into production for their first album at the Record Shop, crafting that “Country Slang” sound. Producer Giovanni stated, “It was obvious to me how unique they were. Chad comes from a strong, traditional, country background, while Austin really had that authentic hip-hop sound. It was natural, unforced, and I didn’t feel I was working with characters. I got the real thing.”
“We believe traditional songs can live in a modern world”. Their EP ”Paradox” represents six singles that bring together multiple genres that have influenced us throughout our lives. “We never felt pressure from the idea of fitting into one sound or one genre, so we’ve always written our songs with the goal of expressing just how we feel,” said the duo about their debut release.
Along with the release of their EP, the duo dropped a single in 2019, “Man of Constant Sorrow.” The track is a remake of the popular song, renewed after the release of the 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Though, which won a Grammy for Best Country Collaboration at the 44 th Annual Grammy Awards in 2002.
Chad states, “Giovanni had a track and asked us to come up with a country dance song, so Austin and I put our heads together and wrote “Hillbilly Shake”. One day we looked on Youtube and found Mrs. Jamie Marshall, had blown up the song in the Line Dance Community. Never dreamed so many people would start shakin!”
