Exclusive Interview with Vince Palmeri
You have a single out currently titled “Infatuation” Tell us the story behind this song.
Infatuation is just the club-ready, high octane, dance track that I always felt like my discography was lacking. I wrote the single shortly after being signed with Ambassador Music Group in June of 2019. Before then, I released my debut album “VP” in April, but felt like a heavy-hitting party starter with a little bit more of a mature edge was the one flavor missing. Lyrically, the song describes an intense and passionate attraction toward someone when you first meet them in a bar/club etc. When I was writing it, I wanted to just keep it fun and light-hearted, but still relatable. After I wrote it, I recorded a demo for it in July of 2019, but felt like the production wasn’t living up to the expectations that I had for it in my head. After being contacted by the production team of rapper “Theory” and Italian EDM/Pop producer, Simone Ermacora, I knew they had the tools to knock this song out of the park. I sent them the demo and they re-produced it into the club banger that it is today. Listening to the demo back now, I couldn’t have imagined putting the song out any other way, and I’m glad I waited, because I wanted to make sure that my first single back after the album was a noticed upgrade in every aspect (sound, production, style etc.). We also shot a video for it with my band and some really great dancers at a local cafe that we turned into a “club”. To date, it was my most fun video to do, and I love the way it turned out.
When you were writing this song, did you know it would be your next single?
When I was writing it, I had two other singles done that I thought would be released next (Complicated being one of them), but after I finished recording the demo I instantly changed direction. Something about it just struck me as the perfect next thing to put out to people. Moving Complicated to a February release felt more appropriate as well, so I just think the timing of everything worked out perfectly.
What is your writing process like?
My writing process is typically never the same. Some days, I’ll have a word or line in my head that I think can be a good punch line or jumping off point for a song, and I’ll start writing from that. Other days, I’ll just sit and mumble an entire melody to a chord progression on my acoustic and not even have any words to it. Then I’ll come back days later and actually write the words. That’s how the hook for “Complicated” came about. If I’m writing to an instrumental or beat I almost always make a melody first, and then add lyrics later based on how the beat “feels” or what I think its telling me.
What do you hope listeners feel after they hear your music?
When people listen to my music, more than anything I just want them to feel connected. I want them to feel like the hear what I’m saying and relate to a little bit of it in their own lives. Whether it’s more introspective tracks like “Complicated”, or just let-loose fun stuff like “Infatuation”, I want people to be able to get something out of both. I’m not an artist who does just one type of thing (slow songs only, sad songs only, club songs only). Life is dynamic and comes with highs and lows, and that’s something that I try to represent in my music. Sometimes, I’m feeling down and want to get something off my chest. Sometimes, I just want to go out and party with my friends. I never want to put myself in a box as an artist that only can do one thing. I want to be able to have something to offer every type of listener when they come to my Spotify page, and I want them to believe what I’m saying.
