Single Review: “Why Oh Why” Walker’s Cay
The Toronto-based band Walker’s Cay is back and better than ever with their latest single, “Why Oh Why.” The five-minute ballad starts off with an innovative electric intro that showcases what makes this band so unique, before the lyrics even come into play. They immediately embrace the spirit of rock-n-roll right off the bat, by being unabashedly afraid to take risks with their instrumentation and creative direction. When the moment sweeps into the first verse, the build-up is well worth it, as the guitars sound vintage; the influences are strong but they tackle them in their unique way and utilize them to create new pieces that are worthy of recognition. The record sees a big questioning of reality take place. “Is it real? Is it really there?” before the instruments go haywire and jolt the listener up from their seat. The song is an experience through and through, and it keeps the listener engaged during the entirety of the lengthy runtime.
Walker’s Cay has never been boring, and they prove that here. This thrill ride of a record is energetic and composed to a T, and they hope to share even more tracks like this with you in the coming months!
