“Got Everything” from Eros TheFool
Part of my job is to keep an eye for new, unusual, genre-breaking music. I usually focus on the prolific blend of Latino and other forms of music. I recently came across an unusual single just released from an upcoming album by the New York/Mexico -based electronic artist Eros TheFool, who plays duet with Oceana. The song, “Got Everything” is the first single out of Eros’s upcoming self-titled album. “Got Everything” is not electronic, in fact it is hard to categorize – more like hip-hop with many other things going on.
Recorded as if was performed at a live party or perhaps an undisciplined, badly miced jam session with echoing background noise, it moves with a kind of clanging but languid beat. It is dance, but slow dance. It is not initially pleasant to the ear, but you have to listen, like watching the aftermath of a car accident. And in listening, you get the layers, the message of unity in the spoken word that emerges from the raucous background, and it begins to make sense. “Got Everything” is not for everybody, but it is for the time we live in. And it nicely primes us for the full album.
