Album Title: Came Thru Pullin’

Artist: Sean Ardoin

Label: Zydekool Records

Genre: Zydeco

Release Date: June 19, 2020

The Ardoin name is one of the most revered in Creole and Zydeco music. Sean Ardoin’s family legacy started with legendary Creole musician Amédé Ardoin, whose songs are the foundation for Cajun and Creole music; followed by Bois Sec Ardoin, one of the best-known practitioners of the state’s rural Creole sound for six decades; and his father, Lawrence “Black” Ardoin. After co-leading the critically acclaimed Zydeco outfit Double Clutchin‘, Sean set out on his own musical journey in 1999.

Sean has performed everywhere including Carnegie Hall, festivals in Europe, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, BET’s live segment on “Comic View” Southern Charm New Orleans, Bravo show “Queen Sugar,” Oprah’s OWN network, CBS primetime crime drama “NCIS: New Orleans” and most recently on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” His music has been featured in commercials, movies and on MTV’s “Road Rules,” “Real World: New Orleans,” “Fraternity Life” and “Sorority Life.”

Sean represents the roots and progressive future of Louisiana’s Creole Zydeco sound like no other artist. A rare combination of tradition, talent and creativity, he started a new genre called Kreole Rock and Soul in order to express his artistry without the confines of the traditional Zydeco idiom.

Sean Ardoin has tweaked the time machine!

On the heels of his Grammy nominated CD, Kreole Rock and Soul, he’s re-imagined 10 songs from his previous 20 years as a solo artist. He’s added modern sounds to old zydeco classics from his extensive songbook. “Came thru Pullin‘” is a clarion call to the listeners, alerting them of the wild musical journey they’re about to begin.

The 8 songs in the middle of this Kreole Rock and Soul sandwich all lead up to the climactic closer, “Shut em Down.” Sean says he likes telling stories with his songs and that music should take you places and give you the opportunity to choose to be happy.

In Review: Came Thru Pullin’  is a masterful performance in the Zydeco genre, a music that is one of the folk foundations, a music that has its roots in the creation of this country.  Each and every track is glorious, the bright and magical rhythms, the music and lyrics naturally blend into a spell that captivates and like a spell, makes your body move.

Several tracks engage in other genre foundations, Rock, Pop, R&B, Soul and more, in fact, this album is multi-faceted, not only spanning this artist’s career, but a re-imagining of past work, and a testament to his own growth and development as a musician, lyricist and composer.

The life of Sean Ardoin unfolds in your ears, he reveals his dreams, his passions, his loves and losses, but finds life and joy in every note.

On another note, Sean Ardoin has also released a video regarding the recent events after the unfortunate and unnecessary death of George Floyd, the Video “What Do You See” is a diversion from some of his previous work, but is amazingly powerful and should be experienced.
