Renowned Musical Artist, Author & Advocate Meghan Cary’s “River Rock Project” Teams Up with Vision 2020 to Celebrate Centennial of Women’s Suffrage

Cary’s Empowerment Anthem “River Rock” Will Be Performed at Toast to Tenacity on Women’s Equality Day August 26th

Billboard Critic’s Choice Artist Meghan Cary has announced that her initiative the “River Rock Project” is teaming up with Vision 2020 in honor of this year’s Women’s Suffrage Centennial. As part of a collaboration to galvanize women to exercise their hard-earned right to vote, the “River Rock Project” will amplify a unified message of women’s equality, justice for all and the imminent need for women to make their voices heard in this election year.

 

Vision 2020, a national women’s equality coalition, plans to feature Cary’s women’s empowerment anthem “River Rock” during the highly anticipated Toast to Tenacity live-streaming celebration on August 26, Women’s Equality Day, at Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia – the kickoff to Women 100, Vision 2020’s year-long celebration of American women winning the right to vote and women’s achievement over the past century.

Cary will perform the song live during the August 26 broadcast and debut an equally inspiring video, which will feature more than 100 women, and the men who stand with them, “lending their voices” and messages of hope for equality and justice for all as part of the virtual choir. To create the video, Cary and her team are inviting people from around the world to submit videos of themselves delivering a personal message and then singing along with the chorus of the song.

 

“The videos we’ve received so far have been incredible. People sharing their hopes for the future and inspiring others to get out and vote, to be heard. And then singing, or dancing, or…one person even ‘sang along’ in sign language…with the song. My dream of gathering 100 plus people in one place to make this video was crushed back in March,” said Cary. “But in the end, what was going to be 100 voices from mostly here in the Philly area has exploded into potentially thousands of voices from across the globe!”

Vision 2020, an initiative of the Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership at Drexel University’s College of Medicine, is a national coalition of organizations and individuals working to achieve economic, political and social equality for women. Vision 2020 has organized Women 100, a multi-event commemoration that will stretch into March 2021, to recognize the Centennial of the ratification of the 19^th Amendment in which suffragists won the right to vote and the progress of women over the last 100 years.

Cary, who is a mother of two, is also an advocate for many social and socioeconomical issues affecting women – including mental illness, homelessness, and disadvantaged mothers and children. She has not only performed countless benefits for advocacy groups such as the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, We Are All Homeless Project, Philabundance, and others, but has also written and performs her own one-woman play On The Way To The Waterfall, about mental illness, moving through grief, and rewriting your story.

Cary’s latest initiative is with the esteemed Lullaby Project, a nationwide project created by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute that connects struggling mothers and mothers-to-be with professional musicians to write personal lullabies for their babies. Working as part of the developmental team on the Philadelphia program, Cary not only partners with women in clinics, hospitals and shelters to create their own lullabies, but also helps them create avenues of connection to soothe, engage and teach their children with music.

Cary is also instrumental in helping her peers find their Truth through her one-on-one coaching and mentoring programs, as well as her work with the Philadelphia Folksong Society (as a workshop facilitator, as well as a performer), Philadelphia Songwriter’s Circle, NERFA (Northeast Regional Folk Alliance), SERFA (Southeast Regional Folk Alliance), FAI (Folk Alliance International), SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), AEA (Actor’s Equity Association) and DGA (Dramatist Guild of America).

Through her art, activism and passion for lifting up others and helping them “raise their voices,” Cary has proven that no one’s story is ever fully written. There is always a way to re-write the narrative.
