Six Strings Music Fest Features Northwest Indiana’s Rock and Blues Music Stars of Tomorrow, Today

Get ready for Six Strings Music Fest, featuring Northwest Indiana’s Rock and Blues music stars of both tomorrow and today, happening on Friday, July 24, from 4pm-10pm, at Central Park Plaza, 70 Lafayette St. Tickets are $15. Performers that day include Mike Wheeler Band; Head Honchos; Marco Villareal Trio; The Blues Project Band; Fayde; and the Six String Students. In addition to music, there will be food, bar, vendors, and raffles at this 100% family-friendly event.  The Fest also will feature opportunities to win a month’s worth of music lessons with Six Strings, and students can enter to win a free guitar.

“Last June I opened my own teaching studio, and I’ve come realize that we have some amazing talent right here in Northwest Indiana. I really want to help showcase that and give my students a stage to share their gifts,” says Event Organizer Rocco Calipari Jr., who also owns Six Strings Guitar and Bass Lessons in Valparaiso, and plays guitar in the group Head Honchos with his dad, guitarist/vocalist Rocco Calipari Sr. With the assistance of one of his student’s moms, Cristina Darr, Calipari Jr. set out to organize the event before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Despite the difficulties in presenting live music at this point in time, they decided to move forward with the event, which is outdoors and will practice social distancing (limited tickets will be sold).

“I feel confident we can host this safely. The park is large and there is plenty of opportunity to spread out while listening to the music,” said Calipari Jr. in a recent interview on ValpoLife.com.  “I want people to enjoy themselves and enjoy music. It’s one of the few things we can enjoy right now.”

Rocco Jr. first sat in with his dad’s other band, Howard and the White Boys, when he was fifteen years old. He attended the Guitar Institute in Los Angeles where he studied with Carl Verheyen (of SuperTramp renown), jazz/blues great Scott Henderson, and famed blues instructor/writer, Keith Wyatt. His approach to the guitar, while grounded in rock and blues, is keenly aimed at a post-modern interpretation of American roots music.
