IndiePulse Artist Introductions: Rita Kolesnikova
Rita Kolesnikova, an alternative musical artist from Moscow, Russia. Influenced heavily by the early works by Tori Amos and Alanis Morissette has made her way to the hearts and ears of American listeners. Her first single from the upcoming LP – “ACTRESS” will be formally released on July 31st.
In commentary, Rita says “This song is a special one, the lyrics were written in a stream-of-consciousness and revealed the signs of counter-dependency which I’ve been struggling with all my life, I guess. The song helped me see it clearly and begin the healing process, that’s why I chose it as my first single.”
ACTRESS is a soft yet powerful track, seething with emotion and a quiet rage, a song of internal conflict and looking for a future with hope and silent desperation. This is a song that grips you and draws you in, there is a hypnotic harmony that drills deep and is well worth the moment, one that is savored and can last forever in the mind.
Other songs by Rita Kolesnikova, available through her Bandcamp page are also just as breathtaking, and sublime… rich with her own unique style. In looking through her available tracks, I found her cover of the Nine Inch Nails track Every Day Is Exactly The Same to be exhilarating, and although it is a “cover” she makes it her own, and rocks it.
From the age of 15, Rita began to act as a vocalist and songwriter in various underground groups of different genres: from alternative rock to experimental trip-hop, and received the support of local TV (o2tv.ru), radio (cultradio.ru), internet media (timeout.ru, modernrock.ru etc).
In 2013, Rita started working on a solo project and released three “one-man-band” home records. Her debut release EP “New Nails” is a four-song conceptual record: raw acoustic guitars, sophisticated vocals, and unusual pads together create a distinctive melancholic atmosphere with a taste of the 90’s.
After being noticed by some of the industry experts, Rita was encouraged to record a full-band LP. At that time, three talented musicians joined her: drummer and sound-engineer Dmitry Mikhailyuk, guitar/bass player Mikhail Sokolov and guitarist Igor Lapushinsky, with whom she began to work on the record.
The topics that Rita speaks about in her music are self-knowledge, getting in touch with the subconscious part of self, exploring intricate feelings and emotional relationships with others.
