Brandon Phillips and The Condition releases New Single/Video
Brandon Phillips and The Condition are one of many indie bands to have a hot single out this summer, but if you ask me, theirs is one of the few to have a music video easily as good – if not better – than its source material. The video for “Sunrise” unfolds like a movie, and despite its four and a half minute running time, has a complete plot that seems all too perfectly synchronized with the thematic nature of the music. It’s an engaging piece, and definitely not something I was expecting to find from relatively obscure talent.

If the black and white imagery, go-go dancing, flutes and moaning organ parts in the backdrop of the lead vocal aren’t enough to create a 60’s vibe here, the very construction of the hook alludes to a respect for midcentury pop/rock that isn’t derivative in any capacity at all whatsoever.
From the moment we first make contact with the main melody in “Sunrise” forward, we’re getting a beefiness out of the band that is evocative enough to promote dancing among anyone within earshot, and rather than copping some swing from a classic tune, Phillips and his band put their own stamp on this groove with unadulterated sonic weight.
“Sunrise” concludes in a cloud of smoke, and whether you’re watching the music video or simply listening to the single, it definitely makes you want to go look up the other content this band has put together since their inception just a few years ago. They’ve come a really long way in a short amount of time, and those who are following the underground on a consistent basis would be wise to take note of Brandon Phillips and The Condition now. This band is going places, and if that wasn’t obvious before, it will be with the release of this latest single and its music video.
