Ginny Luke’s “Love Hypocrisy”

Riding a rigid beat that seems almost too abrasive for the soft tonality of the vocal, Ginny Luke’s “Love Hypocrisy” rises out of the ethers and instantly begins to enrapture us with its one of a kind harmony. As we listen on, the instrumentation only grows louder and we’re given two choices – turn back, or put our faith in Luke as she begins to sing in what initially sounds and feels like a mild whisper. Those who choose the latter will have made the right selection, as what she delivers in the next four minutes or so will undoubtedly make your summer playlist a whole lot steamier.

In the video for “Love Hypocrisy,” it often feels like we’re watching a collection of scenes from noir and art films the same, spliced together with a hard rocking soundtrack that ebbs and flows with the most violent thrust you’re going to hear outside of the metal circuit. Luke’s voice is only matched by her shredding on the violin, which can’t help but send chills down your back when you hear it come alive for the very first time. It’s a thrilling moment, and one that leaves me desperate to see this artist perform in person sometime.

“Love Hypocrisy” concludes in a dusty cloud left behind from the sonic stampede, but when it’s over, its larger than life beat doesn’t leave behind a hangover at all – quite the opposite, if I’m being honest. I’ve been very intrigued with the music Ginny Luke has been producing in the last few years especially, and in this most recent work, she’s giving us all the reason in the world to continue watching her evolution in real time. It’s a great time to be into pop music, and songwriters like her are what make that so.
