5ive Ft Giant’s new single “Let’s Dance”

A harmony as sweet as they get in pop slowly comes oozing out of our speakers ready to seduce any listener within earshot as we listen to the first ten seconds of 5ive Ft Giant’s new single “Let’s Dance,” but as the track presses on, the intimate vibe only gets harder for us to evade. The music video goes down as smooth as its soundtrack, and no matter which of these documents you’re consuming this mid-September, you’re almost guaranteed to walk away feeling a little more excited about the future of indie R&B and melodic hip-hop than you already were beforehand.

It’s easy to get lost in the grooves of “Let’s Dance,” and while the vocal is definitely the centerpiece of the master mix here, it isn’t the only element contributing to the narrative as a whole. The bass, the drums, every melodic component backing up the harmony that starts with 5ive Ft Giant’s serenade in the chorus – they’re all playing an important part in constructing the hook in this single. Textural substance is of as much importance to this artist as any of the surface details are, and when it comes to getting us in the same mood he’s in, he isn’t sparing any sonic expense in achieving precisely what he set out to in his latest release.

“Let’s Dance” runs less than three minutes in total length, and though it’s probably not the longest new R&B/hip-hop hybrid you’re going to hear before the year comes to an end, it’s packing far more of a punch than any other underground cuts I’ve been taken with this month and then some. 5ive Ft Giant isn’t following the beat of anyone else’s drum in his work, and for a fair self-analysis of what his future could potentially look and sound like, I’d recommend turning up this new single and its video as soon as possible.
