Heistheartist aka Leemann Bassey is currently riding a wave of success, with the #1 chart status of his singles, “Boom (Remastered)” and “Sometimes/I Want You Around.” The enigmatic singer-songwriter recently released his concept EP, Adam & Eve, and he’s showing no signs of slowing down, with a new single and EP around the corner….
Hi Leemann! It’s an honor and a pleasure to speak with you. What’s been going on in the world of Heistheartist?
Other than my EP “Adam & Eve” that was released in August, I have a country cover of “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac that drops on October 12th and an Americana EP called “Roots” that debuts on November 27th.
Your latest single, “Sometimes/I Want You Around” is a bit of a mashup of Britney Spears and Snoh Aalegra. Not something you hear every day. What is your favorite Britney song of all time?
Definitely “Sometimes.” It’s one of the most heartfelt songs I’ve heard from her and the main reason why I chose to include that song in my mashup.
Your previous single, “Boom (Remastered)” is a big Christian music chart hit. Congrats! What does that mean to you?
It definitely means a lot that I’m reaching a large number of people with the word of God. It helps me know I’m fulfilling my calling that God has called me to do.
How did you come to record and release Christian-based music?
I was at first in the secular music world, but was dissatisfied with the sexualized direction that my music was going in. I then did a lot of prayer and soul searching. That’s when I wrote my song first Christian song “Boom (Remastered).”
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and why?
Faith is something that is forever evolving, so I hope to continue to grow stronger in my faith in the Lord.
Who is the most famous person you’ve encountered? Tell us the story…
I’m invited to New York Fashion week shows every season as a guest, so Supermodel Tyson Beckford is definitely the most famous person I’ve ever met. We were both guests at the same show.
What’s next for Heistheartist?
More music and a possible tour once the CoronaVirus pandemic subsides.
Thanks for taking the time, Leemann. Any last shout outs?
Yes! Remember to check out my EP “Adam & Eve.” It is available on all major digital music outlets. Also, stay tuned for my Country Cover of “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac available on October 12th as well as my Americana EP “Roots” available on November 27th.
