Roundup: The Hot Half dozen for September 28, 2020

From 56 submissions this week my top half dozen

My Quiet, single, Kris Angelis.  On the heels of “That Siren Hope”, Angelis does it again, a single that warms your heart and energizes your ears with her intimate voice like lips next to your ear. There is no one like her. Available on Bandcamp. Apple Music, Spotify. www.Krisangelis.com

As You Are, single and video, X.Ari.  A composite video of clips from people around the country who have triumphed over bullying by doing what they do best, set to X.Ari’s poppy , addictive soundtrack.  Love the message, the video, and the music. Video at https://bit.ly/36fBjcM  check her out at http://www.xariofficial.com

!Pan-Americanos! EP by The Reckless Night Ensemble. The 8-piece Ensemble’s bi-lingual EP led by Angelica Villarreal on vocals is fun in any language, veering from a send up in English of “Sixteen Tons” to faux banda about Mexico and Los Angeles, to Cha Cha …all with clever lyrics to make you smile.  Available for streaming on Spotify. Purchase on Bandcamp. Website https://www.recklessnightensemble.com/.

First Day Out, single and video by Abby Jasmine with Smoke DZA. A mesmerizing take on the pain of being trapped in a relationship gone very bad.  She has heart and soul in this song but takes no prisoners.  Listen to the words while you to tap to the rap.  Abby Jasmine is going places!   Video at  https://smarturl.it/AJFirstDayOut.  Web at https://www.facebook.com/TrapMomAbby/

TÉ , single and video by ANDRKZA. The debut release on Steve Aoki’s Latin imprint Dim Mak En Fuego is a smooth blend of styles and cultures with beautifully clear Spanish rap flowing through R&B and soft pop by the young Venezuelan multi-artist that is entertaining, thought-provoking and fun. Really like this.  Streaming on all platforms. Video https://bit.ly/33cWcDr

Gurenge, video and single cover of the anime hit by SAKI, Fuki, Kotono, and Ediee Ironbunny recorded to showcase the musicians in  the Shred Racer Livestream event last week from Tokyo. The guitar work by SAKI is worth the price of admission by itself, she is unmatched in the heavy metal alt rock world. Lyrics are in Japanese, but who cares? If you don’t know Japanese metal and the new generation of blazing hot female Japanese guitarists, this is a good intro …and when was the last time you saw a Cyborg shred?
