Goodbye 2020” by AV Super Sunshine

Swirling guitars, decadent vocal harmonies and a curious beat that picks at us until we’re forced to get in sync with its sway – this is “Baby Goodbye 2020,” a revisited version of the 2015 classic and title track of AV Super Sunshine’s debut album, and it’s sounding heavier and more tuneful than ever before this fall. AV Super Sunshine has been one of the most active voices in all of the American underground these past five years, and he’s starting the next decade in pop culture history with a substantially smarter spin on a track most of his fan would consider a staple of his discography.

Everything in this mix feels really spacy and influenced by the works of a Roger Waters-led Pink Floyd, but the amalgamation of melodies that feeds into the lyricism is undisputedly a millennial feature straight out of the postmodern pop movement of 2018-present.

If there’s one thing AV Super Sunshine is superbly adept at in the studio, it’s melding the retro elements of his sound with production techniques that are both forward-thinking and progressive-minded from an aesthetical perspective, which turns even simpler songs (this one included) into epics worth writing home about.

An excellent addition to an already stacked discography that more or less started with this very composition, the new single and music video for “Baby Goodbye 2020” show us that AV Super Sunshine isn’t nearing the midpoint of his career – he is, in fact, just getting started in his plot for world domination. As any critic who knows what they’re actually talking about will tell you, this is the age of digital competitiveness unlike anything we could have imagined just ten or fifteen years ago in the music industry, and as of this moment, AV is setting a good example of how to use it to your advantage.
